Abstract

Mass media plays a very important role in modern society, especially in a democratic system. As one of the pillars of democracy, mass media functions as a source of information, a means of social control, and a means of political education for the community. In the context of democracy, mass media has a responsibility to provide accurate, objective, and balanced information so that the community can make rational decisions in political life, including in elections. Mass media is considered a pillar of democracy because it plays an important role in ensuring freedom of speech and supporting open and transparent access to information in society. There are a number of reasons why media is considered a pillar of democracy. First, the media plays a role in increasing public participation. Mass media plays a vital role in supporting the democratic system by increasing public participation, ensuring government accountability, conveying accurate information, and supporting freedom of speech. However, the media also faces major challenges, such as the spread of false information, political polarization, and the influence of certain interests that can weaken democracy. Inaccurate information can damage public trust in the media and the democratic process itself.
