IMPLEMENTASI KHITOBAH DENGAN METODE PEER TEACHING UNTUK MENINGKATKAN MAHARAH KALAM DI PONDOK PESANTREN PUTRI WALISONGO

This research is motivated by the importance of developing maharah kalam (speaking skills) in Arabic language learning in Islamic boarding schools. Pondok Pesantren Putri Walisongo Cukir applies khitobah activities as a speaking practice method, combined with the peer teaching method, in which high-achieving students serve as tutors for their peers. This study aims to describe the implementation of khitobah activities, the application of peer teaching in those activities, and to identify the supporting and inhibiting factors. This research uses a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The research subjects included the SLA institution’s musyrifah, the supervising ustadzah, peer tutors, and student participants. The results show that khitobah activities are carried out through three stages: preparation, implementation, and evaluation. The peer teaching method is also applied through similar stages. This method fosters an active learning environment and supports the development of students’ speaking abilities, particularly in pronunciation, intonation, gestures, and fluency. Supporting factors include student activeness, the role of the ustadzah, and the availability of adequate facilities. Inhibiting factors mainly stem from a lack of self-confidence and variations in individual abilities.
