Abstract

This study analyzes hydrostatic testing of tube bundle E-3-05 A & C at PT X to verify integrity and operational safety per ASME BPVC Section VIII Division 1. The motivation arises from the oil and gas sector’s need for demonstrable reliability of pressure equipment before service. Methods included standards review, preparation of calibrated tooling, water-based testing, pressure–temperature recording using a Barton chart, and evaluation against acceptance criteria. Key parameters observed were pressure stability, leakage at welded joints, and permanent deformation. Testing increased pressure gradually to approximately 1.3×MAWP, held for 30 minutes, and verified no significant pressure loss and no leakage. Results show compliance with client requirements: hold at 56.89 psig (design pressure) for 15 minutes, 76.72 psig (test pressure) for 30 minutes, and verification at test/1.3 of ~72 psig for 15 minutes. Instruments were calibrated; high-point vents removed trapped air; internal cleanliness was ensured prior to filling. Findings confirm the construction withstood loading without leakage or distortion. Implications include improved asset reliability, reduced safety risk, and technical justification for placing the tube bundle into service when procedures are rigorously applied. The study provides a practical reference for manufacturers and owners to plan tests, set parameters, and standardize documentation.
