Language plays a vital role in human life; more than just a means of communication, language also functions as a means to regulate, shape, and control the behavior of individuals and groups in society. This article raises the perspective of sociolinguistic theory to investigate the nature of language as a social symbol that functions as a tool of social control. In this study, language is understood as an instrument used by various social forces be it the state, elite groups, or institutions to guide, control, and influence the mindset and behavior of individuals. In addition, this study also explores how language contributes to the formation of norms, identities, and power structures in society. The method used is a qualitative analysis of the phenomenon of language use in mass media, education, and politics. The research findings show that language plays a crucial role in building social consensus, maintaining hegemony, and regulating norms that apply in society
