Dampak Kebijakan Larangan Impor Pakaian Bekas (Thrift) terhadap Industri Tekstil Lokal di Indonesia

Abstract

This research investigates how the used clothing import ban policy impacts the local textile industry in Indonesia. This research uses a qualitative approach to study social, economic, and policy phenomena. The research collected data from various relevant sources, including government reports, policy documents, and journal articles. The Minister of Trade Regulation No. 7 Year 2024 sets out a policy that aims to safeguard the local textile industry, increase consumer knowledge about domestic products, and reduce negative impacts on the environment. The results show that this policy has a temporary positive effect on the demand for local textile products; demand will increase by 7% by 2022, but this increase will not be fully sustainable as local producers face a number of problems, including high raw material costs, less innovative designs, and limitations in production technology. In addition, demand for local textile products remains stagnant due to the growing thrifting culture through digital platforms. The research also shows that the policy banning imports of second-hand clothing not only serves as a protection tool, but also improves the competitiveness of the local textile industry through more innovative products and better marketing strategies. The results show that the government, industry players, and consumers must work together to create a sustainable textile industry ecosystem. To ensure success in the long run, this policy must be balanced with incentives for local producers and strict supervision of used clothing imports.
