Abstract. This article discusses mandatory law as one of the main categories in the classification of taklifi law in Islam. In the framework of ushul fiqh, the obligatory law is a binding sharia order, where its implementation brings reward and its neglect is a consequence of sin. Therefore, understanding the concept of obligatory law is very important for Muslims, both in an individual and a social context, because it is the main foundation for the implementation of worship and religious commandments.
This research aims to outline the meaning of compulsory law both in terms of language and terminology, identify its normative basis in Al-Qur'an and hadith, and explain its forms such as obligatory 'aini and obligatory kifayah. In addition, this article also highlights the urgency and wisdom of obligation in forming a disciplined, responsible, and orderly religious ethos, as well as examines its application in the context of increasingly complex contemporary life.
This research was conducted with a qualitative approach through the method of literature study of classical and contemporary literature in the field of ushul fiqh and tafsir. The main source is taken from the work of leading scholars such as al-Ghazali, al-Amidi, and Wahbah az-Zuhaili, accompanied by references from relevant scientific articles and academic journals. With this approach, this article is expected to provide a comprehensive understanding of the mandatory law and encourage the awareness of Muslims to practice it in its entirety and contextually.
