Abstract

The availability of fiber-optic internet access has become essential for supporting various digital activities. However, the Rindang Alam Limau Manis Residential Area in Padang City has not yet been served by MyRepublic's Fiber To The Home (FTTH) network, making a network design necessary to meet regional conditions and customer demands. This study aims to design and analyze the performance of an FTTH network based on Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) technology using the Network Development Life Cycle (NDLC) method. The network was designed using Google Earth Pro and AutoCAD, while performance analysis was conducted through Link Power Budget (LPB), Rise Time Budget (RTB), and simulations using OptiSystem with received power, Bit Error Rate (BER), and Q-Factor as evaluation parameters. The proposed network is capable of serving 290 subscribers with a configuration of one Optical Distribution Cabinet (ODC), 37 Optical Distribution Points (ODPs), ten 1:4 passive splitters, and thirty-seven 1:8 passive splitters. The simulation results indicate received optical power values ranging from −18.704 dBm to −18.485 dBm, while the LPB, RTB, BER, and Q-Factor analyses demonstrate that the proposed network satisfies the required technical performance criteria. The Bill of Quantity (BoQ) estimates the total material cost at IDR 398,650,135. Therefore, the proposed GPON-based FTTH network is technically feasible and can be used as a reference for network deployment in the Rindang Alam Limau Manis Residential Area, Padang City.
