Abstract

This study aims to identify various forms of plagiarism, understand appropriate paraphrasing techniques, and examine the general principles of sentence and paragraph writing in the preparation of journal articles using artificial intelligence (AI), particularly ChatGPT. This study is motivated by the increasing use of AI technology in academic activities, which facilitates the drafting, development, and revision of academic writing while also presenting challenges related to originality, accurate citation, and academic integrity. The research employs a qualitative descriptive method through a literature review, examining various relevant scholarly sources on plagiarism, paraphrasing techniques, sentence and paragraph writing conventions, and the use of AI in academic writing. The findings are expected to provide an understanding of the importance of distinguishing proper paraphrasing from plagiarism, applying effective sentence structures and coherent paragraphs, and using ChatGPT critically and responsibly. ChatGPT should be positioned as a supporting tool in the writing process rather than as a substitute for critical thinking and the author's responsibility. Therefore, all information generated by AI must be verified, while ideas derived from other authors' works must still be accompanied by appropriate citations. This study is expected to serve as a reference for students and academic writers in producing original, systematic journal articles that comply with academic writing ethics.
