Sejarah dan Fungsi Bahasa Indonesia sebagai Bahasa Nasional

Abstract

The Indonesian language plays a strategic role in shaping the identity and unity of the Indonesian nation. This study aims to examine the history of the development and function of Indonesian as the national language and language of the state. The research method used is a descriptive qualitative approach through a literature study of historical documents, language regulations, and relevant scientific literature. The results of the study show that Indonesian has its roots in Malay and was officially declared the national language in the 1928 Youth Pledge. Indonesian functions as a national identity, a unifying force for the nation, a means of communication, and a medium of education. The conclusion of the study confirms that Indonesian plays a vital role in social integration, the development of science and knowledge, and the strengthening of Indonesia's position on the global stage.
