Abstract

Advice or criticism becomes included into the public opinion debate. Actually, criticism of leaders is helpful guidance for using amar ma'ruf nahi munkar. In this regard, of course, it cannot be isolated from the ultimate rule guiding human life—that of the Koran and Hadiths. Criticizing is responding with a description or evaluation of the excellent and bad of something. Disagreement or dislike of anything generates criticism. In this issue, criticism is sometimes expressed without purpose and sometimes overlooks the moral principles included in the critique. Thus, the hadith offers the solution to this issue and a model of the actual core of recruiting leaders. This study aims to give an overview of the quality and knowledge of the hadiths concerning criticizing leaders so that they can be a solution to this problem; it is hoped that it will be able to provide understanding for critics and leaders to better grasp the idea of ​​criticism and tolerance in receiving criticism. Using the Maudhui technique and knowledge of the hadiths on textually and contextually criticizing leaders, this study is a comprehensive library research. The findings of this study are clauses that will capture the core of criticizing leaders, in which the hadiths can be interpreted as suggestions for ma'ruf behavior towards leaders but with restrictions that must be maintained in conveying criticism so that divisions among the people do not develop.
