SEJARAH PERKEMBANGAN MUHAMMADIYAH DI RIAU

Abstract

This study examines the process of spreading Muhammadiyah in Riau Province from the beginning of the 20th century to its current development. Muhammadiyah, an Islamic revitalization movement that focuses on purifying Islamic teachings,education, and the welfare of the people, has experienced significant progress in Riau. This research uses historical methods and a literature review to trace the path of the spread of Muhammadiyah in the Riau region and the factors that encouraged its success. The research results show that the spread of Muhammadiyah in Riau was supported by the presence of local celebrities, educational institutions, and socio-cultural adaptations related to local Muhammadiyah in Riau since the 1920s. The need for Islamic education and modernization of society is the driving force behind this.
